School Information

Whittaker Moss Primary School opened in 1982. It is a single storey, open-plan Primary School (built in 1970) situated above the village of Norden, near Rochdale.

We have 418 pupils on role aged 3-11 years old of which 31 are children aged 3+ attending our school nursery.  We aim to provide a stimulating and caring environment where children feel both secure and happy whilst they learn.  We feel the predominantly open plan design of our building greatly helps in achieving this.

There are 14 classes in school (including nursery).  Classes are arranged in single-age classes with just one mixed-age class of Year 5 and 6 pupils in 2021/2022 academic year.  In September 2017, the school became a permanent two-form entry school, and we now have a permanent two-form, 60 place entry each academic year.  In April 2018 we moved into the former Highwood building which has been extensively refurbished to accommodate our growing school.  This ensures that in future years, the building is well-placed to provide for a full two form entry school.

We strive to provide the highest quality education for all of our pupils, combining excellent teaching with an inclusive and stimulating environment.  We believe the open-plan areas and collaborative learning spaces in the school support children to work both with their peers and also independently. We seek to capture children's interests and extend their knowledge and skills within a supportive and inspiring environment which encourages independence and resilience.

Our established and proactive School Council meet regularly with children and staff to discuss a range of issues and also to work together to improve the school and promote pupil voice.  They currently hold the Platinum Level Award and support other schools with their school council work and also hold training events for schools and the Local Authority.

Whittaker Moss is a school community with children and their families at the heart of everything we do.  You are warmly invited to come and visit us at school, meet our fantastic children and staff and see our wonderful school and the opportunities it provides for all of our pupils.
